Headed to Caffeine and Octane this morning, a couple of observations, a lot of people really run their hot rods way too rich, your exhaust should not smell like gasoline, bouncing your car off the rev limiter in the parking lot makes you an idiot not a motoring enthusiast.
It was packed, every parking lot around this massive mall was nearly full. I did not take a lot of pictures because it was too crowded. Some really nice Cars though. Here are the pictures of what I found interesting.

I am in Atlanta, so there must be several Bandit Trans Ams at every show I think it is the law, anyway it is disappointing not one had a CB Whip antenna on the roof. Come on if you are going to be a bear be a Grizzly.
When I was in high school in the early 90s this is what 70s Trans Ams looked liked in the High School parking lot.
A nearly stock Georgia State Patrol Spec Mustang 5.0 Notchback. I saw these more than once in my Rear View mirror. Still Terrifying
I don’t think I’ve seen 6 3000GTs in the same place since they were at the dealerships
I’m not one to criticize customs too much, but removing your Air Bag, just about the dumbest modification I can think of.

I love these
What is it about these late 60s T-Birds that’s so damn appealing
Need a Challenger? They were stacking them Deep, no word if they were selling them cheap though.

It is not too hot and humid as is typical for this time of year.

I’d bet the smell isn’t people running their cars all overly rich so much as it is lack of catalytic converters. Most of what you posted pics of wouldn’t have them and that’s why you can still smell the gas in the exhaust.
That mustang police car is freaking badass btw.

While there is an smell of a cat less car it is different. A lot of these hot rods are way over carbureted and are dumping raw gas.

As a general rule it’s safer to run rich than lean, so a lot of people with more valuable cars will tune for that. The extra fuel keeps cylinder temps down, meaning detonation is less likely and you’re less likely to blow it up. It’s also done in racecars for the same reason. My FSAE team always shot for 13:1 instead of the 14.7:1 stoich.

no cats on older cars and they run them richer to stay safe. Thats why they smell. Easier to control fuel with modern electronics and fuel injection vs carbs.
Also what a dumb sign. I want to hear cars rev, means they are actually being driven not just putting along barely breathing.
